Clear Communication, Immediate Action

We understand that dental emergencies require quick decisions. You’ll always understand what’s happening, what needs to be done, and why — helping you make informed decisions about your child’s emergency care with confidence.

Our Emergency Protocol: What to Expect

When you contact us about a dental emergency, we’ll gather information about your child’s situation and provide immediate guidance over the phone while scheduling the earliest possible appointment. For true emergencies, we make every effort to see your child the same day, often within hours. When you arrive, we prioritize your child’s comfort and pain relief—Dr. Brown will quickly assess the situation, provide immediate treatment to stabilize the condition and relieve pain, and then discuss the comprehensive treatment plan needed for full recovery. We use our pain-free injection technology for any procedures requiring numbing, ensuring your child stays as comfortable as possible during emergency treatment. Throughout the process, we keep you informed about what we’re finding, what we’re doing, and what follow-up care will be necessary. Our goal is to resolve the immediate crisis, eliminate pain, prevent complications, and create a positive experience even during a stressful situation.

Common Pediatric Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies in children often result from sports injuries, playground accidents, falls, or biting on hard objects. Common scenarios we treat include avulsed (knocked-out) permanent teeth, fractured or cracked teeth from impact or trauma, severe tooth decay causing abscesses or infections, broken or loose fillings or crowns, soft tissue injuries to lips, gums, tongue, or cheeks, dental pain from infections or exposed nerves, and orthodontic emergencies like broken brackets or protruding wires. Time is critical in many dental emergencies, especially with knocked-out permanent teeth where every minute matters. The sooner we can provide treatment, the better the outcome for your child’s oral health. Even if an injury seems minor, it’s worth having Dr. Brown examine it—damage to baby teeth can affect permanent teeth developing underneath, and seemingly small chips can have nerve involvement that leads to bigger problems if left untreated.

Relief for Severe Toothaches and Pain

Severe dental pain in children usually indicates an underlying problem that needs immediate attention—commonly a deep cavity that has reached the nerve, an abscess or infection, a cracked tooth, or food trapped between teeth causing pressure and inflammation. When you bring your child in for emergency care, Dr. Brown will thoroughly examine the painful area, take x-rays if needed to identify the cause, and provide immediate relief through appropriate treatment. This may include draining an abscess, performing pulp therapy to remove infected nerve tissue, placing a temporary filling, or prescribing antibiotics for infections. Our pain-free injection technology ensures that providing this relief doesn’t cause additional distress. Dr. Brown will then recommend appropriate treatment to resolve the underlying problem and prevent recurrence, whether that’s a filling, crown, or extraction depending on the tooth’s condition and whether it’s a baby or permanent tooth.
